JRY OF
I have the bonour to report what were
in my opinion the causes which led last year to the increases în the work of the Police Court.
I agree with the reasons given by the Captain Superintendent of Police in his minute of the 39th. November for such increase.:
the following offences.”
The increases were principally amongst
Arms and Ammunition Ordinance, 1900,
This is a new Ordinance and created new offences which were not in old Arus Ordinance. The Removal Section (8) and the Stock Book and Safe Book (13 and 14) are new. The increase in the number of cases as against the cases under the repealed Ordinance is 81. The increase will be very much greater this year.`
Building Ordinances 15 of 1889, 25, of 1891, 7 of 1895,
and 11 of 1899.
The increase is 235 cases, and is doubt- less due to the increased number of buildings in the Colony.
Closed Houses and Insanitary Dwellings Ordinances
15. of 1894 and 21 of 1897.
The increase is 881 and is due to their being more buildings in the Colony and to great activity on the part of the Sanitary Board."
Gambling Ordinance 7 of 1991.
The increase is 122 cases, and is probably
due to the increased population.
Good Order and Cleanliness. No. 14 of 1845,
The increase is 1,203, principally in the cases of Disorderly Behaviour and obstruction of roads and streets by Hawkers and Shopkeepers. The increase is probably due to the increased population and the activity on the part of the Police.
Insanitary Properties Ordinance No. 34 of 1899.
The Ordinance is new and was put in forea only this year. There were 442 cases last year and there have been a very large number this year. This Ordinance relates to back yards and cock-lofts.
